Cobby
COBBY is the chimpanzee that inspired me to paint portraits of the Great Apes. It was a typical summer day in San Francisco, cold and overcast, when I first met him. He had been captured as an infant in Africa in 1958. He came to the San Francisco Zoo on July 10, 1968 after spending time in a circus. I find him to be a handsome individual with a face full of character. He looked at me for the longest time that first day and basically said "I'm an intelligent being, what are you going to do about it?" My life has not been the same since that day.

Species: Pan troglodytes
Painting is 24"x 30".
Completed in 2001.
