It was a cold day in December 2001 when I first visited
the Sacramento Zoo. It was late in the afternoon and AMELIA was
huddled in a corner trying to catch the last warmth of the setting
sun. Her daughter Maria, not quite a year old, was hunched down
behind her mother and out of sight.
Amelia was born at the Miami Metro Zoo on February 10, 1991 and
came to the Sacramento Zoo in November 1998.
Species: Pan troglodytes
